Another 4500 miles on our Shanachie flying account. After 12 hours, with one stop on the Dominican Republic we land on tropical Jamaica. The land of Reggea music, rum, jerk food and libraries and we want to explore it all. No flues, fever or other setbacks this time. We are exited and ready to enjoy our investigation. The hotel is wonderful and we are treated as VIPS. The first day after a good breakfast we take our cama equipment and head out to make an impression of the area around the Resort. On an enormous golfcourt we are guided around by Chris, who tells us all about the history, the herbs that grow here, the story of the James Bond shoot they did here and the best all rums. Chris tells us to go to a street kitchen nearby to get some real Jamaican food and that is something we can not resist. A taxi is arranged and drives us to a local hangout, where the knives are sharpened and the cockfight remains are everywhere. We are in the company of our driver Vincent and that is the only reason I am alive to write this down. But the food…………Amazing, six pigs under a roofplate on some trees roasting and smoking for hours after being marinated for days. The smell takes our breath away. Bread fruit, Festival, chicken and pork with pepper sauce and local cold beer. It is too much. We go back to the hotel, knowing it will take the whole night (mostly Jaap) to edit this and get it online. It is good stuff though and we set out to make the best of every minute. Tomorrow we have arranged transpotation and a guide to show us around a part of the island and to visit some libraries, but first bring on the Margaritas to help us through the night

Well Well, you guys have a tough life, that’s for sure. Strange effects these librarian tales have on my appetite. I suppose there is a special librarian conference on “books for in the kitchen” or somethinh like that.
Next time try some reggae bands please.
But hey, keep having fun over there. For now eat well, and drink enough.
    cu soon,
    Pim
