Shaking and on the last drops of unleaded we reach Sale, Gippsland, Victoria and refuel the Lizzard King. The rain pours down and we are actually getting a bit fed up being the Drought Busters. Finally the ShanachieTour kicks off. It seems like yesterday that we landed in Amsterdam after our little tour from London to Monterey. The weather was much the same as this morning. Drizzle and cold and depressing. We really enjoyed getting our ShanachieTour book and the [...]
Amazing. Who could have a thought that in two years time we would be back in London as keynote of the second day at Internet librarian International. It seems yesterday when we were illegally filming at Internet Librarian International 2006 after buying tickets to the conference. The first time we met Marydee, Dick Kaser, and [...]

Another 4500 miles on our Shanachie flying account. After 12 hours, with one stop on the Dominican Republic we land on tropical Jamaica. Monterey, the final episode

Salt Lake City Pl. let this Northern star be a guide

NYPL or New York PauL Oxygenizes New York library
After a night without oxygen, which actually made Jaap wake up in the middle of the night screaming for air, we got out of our hotel at 8.00 am to meet Paul Holdengraber at the New York Public Library. Expectations were high as we knew the man is becoming well known in New York for bringing great nights with debate on hot issues. These events are bringing more than 1000 people in the library and only 25% are frequent visitors. No wonder if you book Bill Clinton and Martin Scorcese. If it were not just the library that kept us spellbound it would have been Paul. What passion, what energy, what great intelligence and hunger for knowledge. I rarely met a man that made such a first impression. Talking about stories and Shanachies he came up with the wonderful quotation:” When an old man dies, a library disappears”. That one is for you dad. I think we got almost an hour of great material, which will definitely go online someday. Away from the marble floors and the old wooden desks we hit

Not too much Joni, Erik. Try some Presidents of the USA. Once, Jaap and i had the idea of working in the New York lib. You remember Jaap? Is Charlotte the place with the library with that nice kidssite you once showed me?
Have fun and be good, Gon

We are looking forward to your landing here in Charlotte. Of course, now I have to bribe/negotiate the powers that be to park that massive 27 foot RV spaceship that you all are navigating the highways and byways of the great US. You guys are amazing. Keep on trukin’ brothers.

There can’t be to much Joni, the refuge of the road, yes, indeed.
I see that my last comment has disappeared somehow. Hm.
Well, guys, take care of each other, drive carefully, and have a good time!
Nice mothership, hope she doesn’t mate.
And Erik, nice quatotation indeed, maybe it still is possible to put that under the photograph of our dad you already posted on this site.
It is a quotation that deserves to be remembered.
